Program Coordinator - Volunteer Coordinator - Domestic Animal Services
The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing the volunteer program at Collier County Domestic Animal Services (DAS). This position involves recruiting, training, and supporting a team of dedicated volunteers who assist with the care, enrichment, and adoption of animals, as well as supporting various operational and community engagement activities. The Volunteer Coordinator plays a key role in fostering a compassionate, collaborative, and safe environment for both animals and volunteers at DAS.

Essential Functions
• Volunteer Recruitment and Onboarding
o Develop and implement strategies to recruit volunteers, focusing on community outreach and engagement to build a diverse, skilled volunteer team.
o Conduct interviews, orientations, and training sessions to onboard new volunteers, preparing them to work safely and effectively within DAS.
• Volunteer Management and Support
o Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, addressing questions, providing support, and ensuring a positive experience for all.
o Organize schedules and assign tasks based on the shelter’s needs and each volunteer’s strengths and availability.
o Conduct regular check-ins and provide ongoing training and feedback to volunteers to ensure their roles are fulfilling and beneficial to the animals.
• Program Development and Improvement
o Create and maintain a comprehensive volunteer manual with guidelines, protocols, and resources.
o Plan volunteer appreciation events and recognition activities to celebrate volunteer contributions.
o Gather feedback from volunteers and staff to continuously improve the volunteer program’s effectiveness.
• Community Engagement
o Develop outreach materials and collaborate with DAS’s marketing team to promote volunteer opportunities within the community.
o Represent DAS at community events to raise awareness of the volunteer program and foster positive relationships with local organizations and individuals.
• Data Management and Reporting
o Track volunteer hours, assignments, and progress, and maintain up-to-date records.
o Prepare reports on volunteer activities and impact to inform program improvements and share with leadership.
Additional Duties
• Ensure that all volunteers are trained in safety protocols and procedures and monitor their adherence to these standards.
• Other duties as assigned
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., stand, walk, and handle animals of various sizes and temperaments.
Minimum Qualifications
• Associate degree required.
• Three (3) years of related experience.
• Candidates without a degree should possess two (2) additional years of related experience.
• Fingerprinting required.
• Experience working with or coordinating teams in a nonprofit or animal welfare environment preferred.

• Preferred Skills: Strong organizational and time-management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service. Proficiency with data management software, Microsoft Office, and volunteer management platforms.
• Preferred Attributes: Compassionate, patient, and able to work effectively with diverse groups of people and animals. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
