Job Description
Responsible for coordinating placement of animals with approved rescue groups via responsible match-making, counseling, and by providing exceptional customer service to prospective transfer/transport partners. Coordinates movement of animals to the best positive outcomes through transport and local rescues. Assists with rescue intake and identifying alternative pathways for pets as needed.
Summary of Essential Job Tasks:
• Evaluate and select pets for transfer, considering space, medical, behavioral, and placement capacity.
• Maintain strong relationships with source shelters and rescue partners, ensuring clear and timely communication.
• Conduct behavioral and health assessments to ensure efficient movement through the system.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the animal inventory to match animals with the best possible outcomes, including adoptions, foster homes, return-to-owner, rescue groups, and transfer/transport partners.
• Evaluate animals and collaborate with Lifesaving Operations, Behavior, Medical, and Animal Care teams to determine the most suitable placement for each animal.
• Assist with taking photographs, writing bios, and uploading information to the shelter database for animals available for adoption, foster, and transfer/transport.
• Ensure that all relevant animal information is recorded in shelter management software.
• Assist partners in selecting animals for transfer and ensure all necessary paperwork is completed.
• Verify that all animals being transferred or transported have completed paperwork and meet medical and behavioral requirements.
• Ensure animals being transferred to rescue groups are up to date on vaccinations and preventatives, and that any required medications are provided.
• Research and recruit new rescue partnerships to expand transfer/transport options.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with animal welfare organizations and rescue groups in collaboration with the Sr. Director of Lifesaving Operations and the Director of Lifesaving Partnerships.
• Communicate with foster, volunteer, and rescue communities via phone, email, and social media groups.
• Coordinate with transport partners to facilitate safe, organized transports, including utilizing systems provided for communication and manifest development.
• Perform animal care duties as needed.
• Maintain assigned equipment, supplies, and vehicles in safe working condition, reporting any issues or supply shortages to the manager.
• Protect the confidentiality of customers, partners, and donors.
• Serve as an eligible driver for the SPCA of Texas, operating vans, box trucks, and mobile adoption vehicles as required, following all SPCA of Texas safe transport guidelines.
• Assist with adoption events as needed.
Abilities Requirements:
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Able to work successfully in a diverse team environment.
• Strong customer service orientation, with experience in effectively addressing and resolving issues with constituents with a positive attitude and creating positive interactions with our community.
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn shelter software.
Applicant Information:
• Applicant must be interested in animal welfare and creating positive outcomes without judgement or bias.
• The individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week. Shift times may vary and include weekend hours.
• Must be at minimum 21 years old to meet insurance requirements and must be qualified and licensed to operate a motor vehicle in the state of Texas.
• Must be eligible to be a “driver” for the SPCA of Texas and must perform “driver” duties as directed by the immediate Supervisor. Such “driver” duties may include, but not be limited to, driving an SPCA of Texas Van, Box Truck, or Mobile Adoptions Vehicle.
• Experience with animal handling preferred.
• Detail oriented and organized.
• Experience working, volunteering or fostering with animal rescues or shelters preferred.
Working Conditions:
• Applicant will be exposed to animals, some of which may be fearful and/or fractious.
• Applicant must be dedicated to providing every animal exceptional care and a loving home.

• Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
• While performing the duties of this job this position may be exposed to animal odors or airborne particles.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud.
Normally scheduled 5 days per week, 8 hours per day between the hours of 7am and 7pm - This position does require scheduling flexibility depending upon transport times
