Job Description
American Humane, a national leader in animal welfare for over a century, seeks a Service Dog Training Manager for its Pups4Patriots program at the American Humane Sanctuary in Palm City, FL. This hybrid position reports to the Director, Sanctuary and Military Affairs Programming, and plays a key role in training service dogs to assist veterans and first responders with PTSD and TBI.About American Humane:

Position Summary:
The Service Dog Training Manager oversees all service dog training operations at the Sanctuary. In collaboration with the Director and VP of Companion Animal Welfare, the Manager ensures adherence to American Humane’s training protocols and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Select and acquire dogs that meet program requirements
Develop a local foster program for in-home dog training
Coordinate daily kennel care with Sanctuary staff
Ensure dogs receive regular veterinary care
Train dogs in obedience, public access, and task-specific skills
Prepare dogs for roles as service, family support, or facility dogs
Maintain accurate training and care records
Provide ongoing training updates with media content
Match dogs with approved applicants and lead handler training
Offer ongoing graduate support and training retreats
Organize community engagement opportunities
Assist in recruiting veteran and first responder applicants
Represent American Humane through donor events and demonstrations
Qualifications:
5+ years of dog training and care experience; 2+ years with an ADI-accredited agency preferred
Degree in Animal Science (preferred)
Experience with kennels, military culture, and mental health support
Public speaking and strong customer service skills
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple initiatives
Proficient in Microsoft Office and adaptable to new technologies
Must have a valid driver’s license and a vehicle suitable for transporting dogs
Capable of obtaining a U.S. passport and traveling up to 25%
Able to meet physical demands, including walking 3–5 miles/day and lifting up to 50 lbs
Work Environment:
Primarily on-site at Palm City Sanctuary
Frequent local travel and occasional out-of-state travel
Weekend and evening hours required
Must be comfortable working closely with dogs and in varying conditions
