Job Description
Job Summary: The Specialist, Laundry & Dishes plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, sanitary, and organized environment to ensure the health and safety of animals, staff, volunteers, and visitors. This role is responsible for the timely and efficient washing, drying, and storing of dishes, bowls, crates, other animal care items and laundry, including bedding, towels, and enrichment used in the shelter.
Summary of Essential Responsibilities:
Collect, wash, dry, and neatly store animal bedding, towels, blankets, and toys
Wash, sanitize, dry, and organize food bowls, water bowls, litter boxes, enrichment items, and other animal care items such as crates, bins, carts, tools,
Follow all shelter sanitation and disease control protocols to prevent cross-contamination
Operate industrial washers, dryers, and dishwashing equipment and other cleaning machinery safely and efficiently
Monitor laundry and dish supply inventory; restock supplies as needed
Ensure workspaces, machines, and storage areas are clean, organized, and free from debris
Report any malfunctioning equipment or maintenance needs to the supervisor promptly
Clean maintain shelter around adoptions pods and holding hallways.
Assist with the general cleaning of animal housing areas as needed which may also include cleaning outdoor runs and sanitizing yards.
Work cooperatively with staff and volunteers to support daily shelter operations
Summary of Qualifications:
Previous experience in a shelter, kennel, veterinary hospital, or commercial laundry setting is a plus
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and protocols
Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for long periods of time
Comfortable working around animals of all sizes, species, and temperaments
Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
Abilities Required:

Applicant Information:
The individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week. Shift times may vary and include weekend hours.
Fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to cleaning chemicals and animal-related allergens
Requires physical stamina, bending, lifting, and standing throughout the shift
May include weekends, holiday, and evening hours based on operational needs
Normally scheduled 5 days per week, 8 hours per day between the hours of 7am and 7pm.
