Position Title: Spay/Neuter VeterinarianReporting to: Medical Director
Employment Type: Full-time, Exempt
$98,000-$120,000 annual salary DOE

Work Schedule
● Position includes weekday, weekend and holiday hours requiring a flexible work schedule depending on needs.
● Hours and days are subject to change based on department demands.
Under the direction of the Medical Director in all activities and responsibilities, the Spay/Neuter Veterinarian performs high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter as well as other necessary procedures.
Required Skills/Qualifications
● Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited college or university and at least 3 years of professional veterinary medical experience.
● Possession of a current license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Utah.
● An interest in and willingness to support the mission, vision, and philosophy of the Humane Society of Utah (HSU).
● An interest in teaching and mentoring veterinary students.
● Ability to operate, maneuver, and/or provide simple but continuous adjustments on equipment such as surgical instruments, syringes, microscopes, diagnostic equipment, computer terminals, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
● Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing movements requiring skill and training, such as performing surgery and giving injections.
● Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
● Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with the public, fellow employees, and volunteers.
● Proficiency in Excel, Gmail, Google Sheets/Docs, and other computer skills that include the ability to prepare reports and maintain an efficient records system. Experience with Cornerstone preferred.
● At least one year of experience working in a shelter or other high-volume setting is preferred.
Primary Responsibilities
For Humane Society of Utah:
● Perform high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter procedures on both owned and shelter animals.
● Perform other procedures such as dentisties, enucleations, amputations, growth removals, etc. as needed for shelter animals.
● Practice veterinary medicine within a high-volume clinic and shelter setting, striving to provide the best possible care on both a herd health and individual level while being mindful of limited resources.
● Participate in off-site outreach events on occasion.
● Ensure that all state and federal laws, state regulations, and accepted standards regarding clinic operations, the practice of veterinary medicine, drug control, and animal care and handling are adhered to.
● Maintain up-to-date knowledge of animal health protocols and companion animal health issues.
● Build effective relationships through positive interaction and communication with the community, volunteers, and staff.
● Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
● Advocate for the humane treatment of animals and be able to transmit these values to others.
● Provide the clinic staff with ongoing supervision, mentoring, and continuing education so that they are able to properly and skillfully complete their job requirements.
● Treat all animals humanely, properly, and with compassion at all times, regardless of the situation or circumstance; promote a humane and caring attitude toward all animals at all times.
● Maintain positive relationships with co-workers, managers, executive staff, community pet owners, adopters, and other stakeholders.
● Cheerfully acknowledge the presence of customers in all public areas and interact with the public in a polite, professional, nonjudgmental manner at all times.
● Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Medical Director.
