Job Description
This is a full-time 40 hour a week position, with some required weekend days.
THE POSITION:
We have an exciting opportunity for an Animal Welfare Specialist at MSPCA at Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, MA. The vision of the MSPCA Animal Protection Division is to proactively address the underlying issues that put animals at risk. We value our connections to communities and organizations, and serve as a resource to protect the largest number of animals possible. Animal Welfare Specialists (AWS) are at the forefront of this mission, working directly with people and their pets to effect positive change in our community. Some job responsibilities include:
Being involved in all aspects of animal care including feeding, cleaning and disinfecting of animal living spaces, enrichment activities, exercising, medication administration, etc
Evaluating and examining all animals for basic medical conditions on intake as well as continual monitoring of their well-being for the duration of their stay at the shelter
Effectively identify, record and discuss with care and behavior team any concerning behaviors that may arise
Implementing behavior plans unique to each animal to ensure their success towards adoption
APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:
We are looking for applicants with at least six months of previous work with animals. Previous animal shelter experience is a plus! Applicants should also demonstrate excellent judgment and interpersonal skills and are eager to work to support the human-animal bond.
