About Us
Since 1989, Carver Scott Humane Society has connected animals in need with people who care. We are a donor-supported, community-driven rescue serving hundreds of animals each year through adoption, foster, and outreach programs.
CSHS is at a pivotal growth moment, including expansion into a new facility and nonprofit veterinary clinic. We are building a highly engaged, working board to help lead this next chapter.

The Vice President role is currently open, offering a near-term pathway to executive leadership.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking board members who:
Are passionate about animal welfare and community impact
Show up, engage, and take initiative
Are comfortable with fundraising and opening doors
Bring professional expertise (fundraising, finance, legal, marketing, HR, construction, veterinary, etc.)
Value collaboration, accountability, and inclusive leadership
Core Expectations
1. Be Actively Engaged
Attend and participate in bimonthly board meetings
Come prepared and follow through on commitments
2. Lead Through Committees
Serve on at least two committees
Contribute consistently and step into leadership (chair roles expected)
3. Drive Fundraising
Meet a minimum $1,500 annual give/get commitment
Actively identify, cultivate, and connect donors
Support campaigns and sponsorship development
4. Show Up in the Community
Attend key events (Run, Walk, Wag 5K; Lakefront Music Festival; donor events)
Participate in at least 4 additional events annually
Host, recruit, and engage volunteers and supporters
5. Serve as an Ambassador
Promote CSHS in your networks
Share stories and expand visibility
Help recruit future board members
6. Govern Effectively
Uphold fiduciary responsibilities
Engage in budgeting and strategic planning
Maintain accountability and confidentiality
Commitment
Time:
Board meetings: Every other month (in person)
Committee meetings: Monthly, generally virtual but at the discretion of the committee chair
In between meetings: working time, collaboration sessions, volunteer duties
Events: ~6–10 per year
Financial:
$1,500 annual give/get expectation, which can be fulfilled through a personal contribution, fundraising efforts, or a combination of the two.
