Job Title: Community Engagement Coordinator, Homeward Trails Danville

Location: Danville, VA

About Homeward Trails Danville (HTD): Founded in June 2025, HTD operates volunteer foster and
diversion programs, adoption programs, free and subsidized spay and neuter for cats and dogs, and
pet food and supply events. The mission of HTD is to provide lifesaving programs and resources for
Danville animals that directly reduce the euthanasia rate at the Danville Area Humane Society and
decrease animal homelessness. HTD is a program of Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, a Fairfax
County, VA -based nonprofit organization, founded in 2022. HTD programs and activities are
currently overseen by a full-time HDT program director in collaboration with the Homeward Trails
management team.

Duties:
- Plan, promote, and execute community events and outreach activities both on-site and off-site
- Build and sustain partnerships with local civic organizations, businesses, churches and leaders
- Assist HTD program director with building and sustaining media relationships
- Support community-based humane education and equitable access to animal care and
resources
- Represent HTD on-site at various community events
- Support positive relationships with shelter partners
- Assist in coordination and oversight of pet pantry and food donations
- Assist in recruiting and supporting volunteers and fosters

- Assist in coordination of Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return 9TNVR) requests within the community
- Create social media content as needed
- Will direct report to HTD program director

Job Qualifications:
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma; some college or college degree preferred
- Preferred Experience: 1-2 years of animal rescue and/or shelter experience, paid or volunteer
- Strong written and verbal skills, including the ability to communicate with staff, volunteers,
community, and local businesses
- Public speaking and community engagement experience preferred
- Flexibility, ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-moving, ever-changing environment
- Comfort and confidence spending time around animals; some handling and transport of
animals
- Valid driver’s license and ability to attend off-site community events
- Ability to remain calm and pleasant in stressful situations
- Proficient computer skills including the internet, social media applications, Microsoft Word and Excel, and ability to learn animal management software, Shelterluv
