Job Description

The Education & Advocacy Programs Associate works to support the Education & Community Advocacy programs at Pasado’s Safe Haven by implementing program initiatives. This position will work under the supervision of the Education & Community Advocacy Programs Manager to support department work by leading on-site programs at our sanctuary and offsite events which introduce learners of all ages to the work and mission of Pasado’s Safe Haven. The successful candidate for this position will be a true “people person” who is comfortable speaking with all ages about a vegan lifestyle and compassion for all animals.



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

Optimize programming and coordinate all logistics associated with the youth education program, including creating and maintaining curriculum content that aligns with national and state education standards and follows humane education best practices
Administer organized outreach to schools, libraries, and other youth organizations to maximize engagement and grow youth education programs, while prioritizing outreach to diverse communities
Develop and strengthen program relationships and partnerships with outside youth organizations, including Scouts, LEAP, and Hip Hop is Green
Collaborate with the Event Coordinator to utilize organization’s event management software for scheduling on-site educational events and handling event logistics.
Collaborate with Event Coordinator and Educational Programs Manager to manage on-site event calendar ensuring balance of program growth and resident animal welfare
Uphold humane education messaging in youth and public sanctuary programs and ensure all events align with educational goals and messaging
Optimize visitor experience at the sanctuary through educational, engaging, and unique tour/event programming for all ages
Implement compassion camp curriculum and coordinate staffing, volunteers, and camp activities
Supervise small team of seasonal summer camp counselors and assist in training and supporting a regular team of volunteer tour guides
Collaborate with Education & Advocacy Programs Manager to ensure timely advocacy opportunities are included in events and educational programming


Required Skills/Qualifications

3-5 years experience leading educational programming, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in curriculum development and implementation
Some experience in an advocacy-related role, preferred
Confident leading group discussions with all age groups - from preschoolers to seniors - and ability to create appropriate and compelling content for each
A true “people person” who is able to connect with people of all ages in both small settings and large group forums.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Must be comfortable using virtual platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meets).
Strong personal and professional integrity.
Be able to maintain a positive, professional attitude in challenging situations.
Ability to independently lift/move 20 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally on certain days.
Ability to walk for 4 or more hours continuously.
Personal interest in and knowledge of animal rights, animal welfare, and veganism strongly preferred; professional experience in these areas is a plus.
Other duties as assigned by management.

Employment:

Full-time (Non-Exempt), 36 hours per week
Schedule, season specific per program needs:
Jan-Jun Schedule: Tuesday-Thursday, Saturday 9hrs
July-August Schedule: alternating Monday-Thursday 8hrs, Friday 4hrs and Tuesday-Friday 8hrs, Saturday 4hrs
September-December Schedule: Tuesday-Thursday, Saturday 9hrs
Onsite at our sanctuary in Monroe, WA
Occasional local travel required
Occasional evening event coverage required
