Job Description
Summary of Purpose:
Providing leadership and ensuring the overall success and sustainability of the Equine Program.
Duties (Essential Functions):
Direction of the Equine Program.
• Provide vision, leadership, recognition, and motivation to the equine team.
• Plan, analyze, and execute new programming with departmental managers for maximum synergy.
• Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, reviewing, terminating, and disciplinary measures of equine manager.
• Ensure effective use of volunteers in related programs.
• Coordinate with teams to create and ensure compliance of Standard Operating Procedures and internal training programs.
• Ensure effective internal training and safety measures are in place.
• Supervise capital projects and work with the Facilities Director on completion and ensure capital equipment, vehicles, trailers, etc. are in working order.
• Promote interest, education, and information regarding equine programs for community leaders, equine groups, tours, events, etc.
• Increase equine financial support and revenue through donations, self-generating fees and grant opportunities, etc.
• Provide direction to PR and Marketing team to market and increase awareness.
• Serve on the leadership team and participate in the strategic planning process ensuring goals, objectives and action steps are being met.
• Support the success and attend of KHS signature fundraising events as well as Willow Hope Farm hosted fundraisers.
Reports Management
• Create and analyze reports to ensure budget and related goals are met and amend as necessary.
• Analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual statistics to identify areas for improvement and evaluate programs; implement changes where necessary.
• Manage operating agreements, leases, MOU’s, waivers, hold harmless with other equine relationships.
Relationship Management
• Ensure and work with the development team to develop, cultivate, and maintain relationships with equine donors and prospects.
• Work with staff and Development Team to ensure equine donors are thanked in a timely manner.
• Delegate or serve as an outreach spokesperson to internal and external groups and media as requested.
• Communicate with VP of Animal Welfare regarding unusual activities, significant problems or concerns.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• 3+ years in the equine field and previous leadership/management experience preferred.
• Advanced equine knowledge with experience with general health issues.
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills with the ability to prepare reports.
• Ability to prepare, monitor, and control budgets.
• Exceptional organizational, analytical, interpersonal, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Self-directed with the ability to work independently/meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment with little direct supervision.
• Ability to envision long-range goals and apply them to daily operations.
• Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with people of all backgrounds and personalities.
• Ability to manage the emotional aspect of end-of-life service and humane euthanasia, and support staff in high-emotion circumstances.
• Accept, support, and represent KHS core values, programs, policies, and procedures.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record and be willing to drive KHS vehicles.
• Local and some long distance travel required; as well as the flexibility to work some evenings and weekends or respond to urgent situations of horses in crisis.
• Background Check required.
Physical, Psychosocial, and Cognitive Demands/ Working Environment
• Individuals will have extended periods of sitting, talking, and listening.
• Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, walking, and standing regularly while performing job functions.
• Occasionally lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to and exceeding 50 lbs.
• Includes working in an indoor desk environment as well as working with animals in a farm setting (indoor/outdoor) in varying weather conditions.
• Potential for exposure to allergens (including but not limited to pet dander, dust, peanut butter), and zoonotic diseases (diseases transferred from animals to humans).
• Exposure to chemicals.
• Exposure to loud noise.
• Exposure to emotional circumstances.
• Fast-paced environment.
