About the position
As a small team with a big mission, Cat Town depends on effective day-to-day operations to support both people and cats. The Operations Manager plays a central role in making our work possible by overseeing core operational functions across the organization, including volunteer programs, facilities, supplies, and training. This role works closely with the Executive Director and department leads to identify operational needs, remove roadblocks, and ensure that systems, volunteer support, and resources are aligned with Cat Town’s mission and values.
This role oversees the volunteer program, including recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, and stewardship. Cat Town relies on more than 200 active volunteers to carry out many aspects of our work, including maintaining a clean and safe facility, welcoming visitors to our adoption center, supporting adopters and fosters, and assisting with administrative, marketing, and fundraising efforts. The Operations Manager provides leadership and structure to these efforts, ensuring that volunteers are well trained, well supported, and able to do their work effectively.
The Operations Manager is also responsible for site operations, coordinating with the animal care team, supporting general staff training (such as harassment prevention, safety, and workplace compliance), maintaining the facility, and inventory management, helping ensure that Cat Town’s physical space and operational infrastructure support high-quality care for cats and a positive experience for staff, volunteers, and the public.
The ideal candidate is an organized, people-centered leader with strong communication skills, a collaborative management style, and a practical approach to problem solving. They are comfortable balancing big-picture planning with hands-on operational work, thrive in a fast-paced nonprofit environment, and are passionate about Cat Town’s mission to help cats who are overlooked or at risk in traditional shelter settings. This position reports to the Executive Director.
