Job Description

Do you have a passion for helping people in need, as well as animals? Do you dream about becoming part of a team that makes a difference in the lives of pet families in the community? Do you want to work in an environment that is welcoming, friendly, and supportive? If this sounds like you, then Dakin Humane Society wants to know!

Dakin’s Pet Health Center is dedicated to providing exceptional non-emergency veterinary care for community pets. We prioritize the well-being of animals and strive to create a positive and compassionate environment for both pets and their owners. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as our new Pet Health Center Manager.

As the Pet Health Center Manager, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the non-medical day-to-day operations. You will be responsible for managing a team of dedicated professionals, ensuring the highest standards of care. We meet clients where they are and through incremental care, multiple payment options, and staging care, you’ll help clients help their pets. This role requires a strong leader with excellent organizational and communication skills, a passion for animal health and community outreach, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service. As Dakin is a non-profit organization, your budget goal will be to cover expenses, not to generate a profit. Any “profit” generated helps us fund care for more animals and people in need.

A few things you can expect working for Dakin:

-You’ll have independence within your department - no micro-managing or being told what to sell! You’ll work as a team with the Pet Health Center staff to help the department excel.

-You’ll work with managers of other departments (Adoption Center, Spay/Neuter Clinic) to figure out more ways to help clients and pets, both within the Pet Health Center and the organization as a whole. You’ll have support from facilities, finance, HR, IT, and marketing/development - you don’t have to do it all yourself!

-We’re serious about work/life balance. You won’t be expected to stay late or come in extra time. You won’t be getting calls or texts when you’re off. We have excellent PTO, and we expect our staff to use it!

The schedule is full-time, 10-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Three-day weekends, here you come!

Pay range: Salary $60,000 to $65,000. Additional compensation for candidates with significant experience.

Employee Benefits:

-Ample amounts of PTO (like 30 days in your second year of full-time employment, and 35 days in your third year, in addition to 5 paid holidays)!

-Health, dental, and vision insurance

-Accident & Hospital Indemnity

-Flexible Spending Account

-Life Insurance, AD&D

-Bereavement Leave

-401k with advisors available

-Discounted pet care for your pets

-Employee Assistance Program

-Eligibility for the Non-Profit Student Loan Forgiveness Program

Sign-On Bonus!

Bilingual English/Spanish candidates who apply to Dakin will receive a $500 bonus if they are hired and after they successfully reach 90 days of employment. Bilingual candidates must be fluent in both written and verbal communication to qualify for this bonus.

Education & Experience:

-A minimum of three years of veterinary practice management experience required.
-Bachelor's degree in business or related discipline preferred, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Preference will be given to B.A. Management or Leadership, M.B.A., CVPM, and CVT/LVT candidates.
-Veterinary knowledge is a must, and technician skills are even better.
-Knowledge of animal welfare issues is a plus.
