Mission
Companion Animal Medical Project (CAMP) provides veterinary care to support pet-retention and increase stability for pets and their owners experiencing homelessness, in transition, or financial hardship throughout Central Oregon.

About CAMP
CAMP is a Central Oregon based nonprofit founded in 2020 committed to ensuring that no pet owner has to choose between their animal companion and a roof over their head. We provide no-cost veterinary care and pet retention services to improve the quality of life for un/sheltered individuals or those facing financial hardship. While animal health is central to our mission, our work is inherently housing focused: we remove pet related barriers that often prevent individuals from accessing social-health services, shelter, and permanent housing.
We recognize that while a pet can provide stability and emotional support, they can also present significant challenges to navigating the social service systems. Our goal is to create a community where pet ownership is a bridge to stability rather than a hurdle, ensuring every neighbor is treated with dignity and respect.
To achieve this, CAMP operates on the front lines, meeting people exactly where they are. We believe that by caring for the pet, we are directly supporting the person, fostering a more inclusive Central Oregon where the entire household can stay together and thrive. This work involves serving individuals with a wide range of lived experiences, including those experiencing homelessness, at-risk, domestic violence survivors, people navigating mental/physical health disabilities, substance use disorders, and/or criminal histories. We provide comprehensive training to ensure our team can work with these populations in trauma-informed ways, fostering an environment where every person and pet is supported.

Bring your veterinary skills and commitment to community service directly to the people and pets who need it most. CAMP is seeking a Ready Together & Outreach Navigator to deliver outreach services across Central Oregon, working alongside community partners to connect with pets and people experiencing homelessness and those in rural areas with limited access to care. This role focuses on outreach throughout Central Oregon, working alongside community partners, facilitating spay/neuter appointments (including all arrangements and transportation), and meeting with un/sheltered pet owners 1x1 to go over pet-readiness to support transitions into shelter or housing.

Position Summary
The Ready Together & Outreach Navigator supports CAMP’s mission by connecting community members and their pets with veterinary care and supportive resources. This role builds trusting relationships with clients experiencing homelessness or financial hardship, assists with outreach and education efforts, and helps coordinate services in collaboration with veterinary staff, volunteers, and community partners. The position requires strong communication skills, emotional intelligence, and a compassionate, trauma-informed approach.
Key Responsibilities
Schedule, staff, organize, and collaborate on outreach sites across Central Oregon.
Assist in providing preventive veterinary services under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian, including vaccine administration, parasite control, ear cleaning, nail trimming, and other basic treatments, while ensuring patient comfort and safety
Distribute pet food and supplies to unsheltered, under-resourced, and rural communities.
Facilitate spay/neuter support, including communication, coordination, and patient transportation.
Meet with pet owners in outreach settings and one-on-one appointments to provide pet-readiness guidance and support.
Maintain accurate records of services provided and enter data into HMIS (Homeless Management Information System).
Adhere to all CAMP operating procedures and confidentiality policies.
Assist with intake and care of animals at CAMP’s facility or in collaboration with partner shelters for surrender intakes.
Work professionally and respectfully alongside staff, volunteers, and community partners.
Represent CAMP at community events and public engagements.
Demonstrate adaptability, teamwork, and a commitment to providing compassionate care to animals and their humans, recognizing and respecting diverse lived experiences.
Required Qualifications
Alignment with the mission, principles, and goals of the Companion Animal Medical Project (CAMP).
Foundational general practice veterinary assistant knowledge and skills, including but not limited to:
Safe restraint of animals of various sizes and temperaments, including the application of Fear Free® techniques
Veterinary terminology
Vaccine protocols and administration
Parasite prevention (flea, tick, and internal parasite prevention and treatment)
Oral medication administration
Basic patient care and treatments (e.g., ear cleaning, ophthalmic ointments, nail trims, clipping hair mats)
Client education and communication
Willingness and ability to learn additional veterinary assisting skills as needed to safely provide services within CAMP’s scope of practice.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
High emotional intelligence skills, including the ability to engage clients experiencing hardship, trauma, or crisis with cultural humility, respect, and non-judgment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Professional demeanor and effective communication in person, by phone, and electronically.
Self-starter who is self-directed, motivated, and able to work independently with CAMP clients, team members, and volunteers.
Current, valid Oregon driver’s license with a clean driving record that meets organizational and insurance standards.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
Ability to routinely load, set up, and unload outreach supplies, including mobile workstations, pet food, and veterinary supplies.
Frequent lifting, carrying, crouching, bending, kneeling, and navigating stairs or a mobile clinic van.
Ability to drive clinic vehicles, including a fully equipped clinic minivan, to and from outreach sites.
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required to safely assess animal behavior and administer vaccines or other treatments.
Handling and safe restraint of dogs and cats as needed within the scope of this position

Work Environment
Work is conducted in outdoor environments throughout Central Oregon, including outreach locations and homeless encampments
Ability to work in a variety of settings, including a mobile veterinary van, shelters, and the CAMP headquarters office
Frequent driving to and from outreach sites and for patient transport using CAMP vehicles
Frequent exposure to and handling of dogs and cats
Exposure to dogs and cats with unknown or incomplete rabies vaccination histories
Potential exposure to animal bites, scratches, and zoonotic diseases
Exposure to animal bodily fluids, including feces, urine, saliva, pus, vomit, and/or blood
Exposure to unpleasant odors associated with animal care and outdoor environments
Interaction with individuals from diverse and sometimes unknown backgrounds, including individuals experiencing mental or physical health challenges, substance use disorders, and/or prior involvement with the criminal justice system
Preferred Experience
Two or more years of veterinary assistant experience.
Experience in the animal welfare sector is a plus.
Experience in social services or the non-profit sector is a plus.
Bilingual (English-Spanish) skills are a plus.
