Job Description

Since 1965, The Hermitage has been Arizona's first no-kill shelter and only accredited cat sanctuary. Our cage-free facility houses 400+ cats and rescues over 700 annually, including FIV+ and FeLV+ cats. We believe every cat is adoptable and deserves a happy, healthy life.

Position
Full-time, exempt position reporting to Executive Director. Salary: $100,000. Benefits: 75% health insurance, PTO, optional dental/vision.

We seek a compassionate veterinarian to provide comprehensive medical care for 400+ cats, manage health protocols for special populations, perform surgeries, and collaborate with our medical team in a shared leadership model.

Essential Duties
Medical Care: Provide wellness exams, diagnostics, and treatment for acute and chronic conditions. Conduct intake exams and perform humane euthanasia when necessary.
Surgery: Perform spay/neuter surgeries, dental procedures, and manage surgical protocols.
Population Health: Develop protocols for FIV+, FeLV+, and diabetic cats. Oversee preventive care, disease prevention, and infection control.
Collaboration: Work with Medical Supervisor in shared supervision of medical team. Train staff, serve as medical resource, and communicate effectively with all shelter departments.
Compliance: Maintain AZ veterinary license and DEA certification. Oversee controlled substances and maintain accurate medical records.

Qualifications
Required: DVM/VMD degree, AZ veterinary license, DEA certification, strong surgical skills (spay/neuter, dental), passion for feline medicine and shelter work, commitment to no-kill philosophy.

Preferred: Shelter medicine experience, FIV/FeLV/diabetic management knowledge, shelter medicine certification. We welcome both experienced veterinarians and passionate new graduates.

You'll work with our Medical Supervisor to oversee the medical team, value input from veterinary technicians, and coordinate clinical decisions. Essential qualities include compassion for at-risk cats, emotional intelligence, organizational skills, and commitment to individualized care without production pressure.
