We are seeking an experienced Shelter Veterinary Technician who thrives in a fast-paced work environment, takes initiative, and is passionate about providing excellent care to homeless and at-risk animals across our community.

The Shelter Veterinary Technician works in close partnership with the Medical Director to ensure the highest standard of care for animals in our custody. This role assists with daily medical operations at our intake and adoption facility and with high-volume spay/neuter surgery, medical case management, recordkeeping, and other essential clinical and operational functions.

This position requires four (4) ten-hour shifts per week on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday. Work location and operational assignments may be adjusted based on organizational needs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Surgical & Clinical Support
* Prepare animals for surgery and assist veterinarians during high volume spay/neuter procedures
* Monitor anesthesia and post-operative recovery
* Safely transport animals to and from surgical and housing areas as needed
* Perform and document health checks and diagnostic procedures
* Identify, accurately document, and treat medical conditions as directed by veterinarians
* Assist with animal intake examinations, initial vaccinations, diagnostic testing, and preventative care in accordance with established veterinary protocols.
* Follow Furry Friends’ veterinary protocols for ill or injured animals

Medical Case Management & Records
* Maintain complete, accurate, and timely medical records in Shelterluv
* Review medical charts to ensure treatments are completed as prescribed
* Monitor patient progress and proactively communicate recheck needs
* Distribute medications in accordance with veterinary direction
* Ensure continuity of care

Team & Operational Support
* Assist the Medical Director with inventory management, ordering, and training
* Support off-site medical activities including spay/neuter and vaccine clinics as assigned
* Work closely with animal care and behavior and training team members, including attending daily inter-departmental meetings
* Provide day-to-day oversight and coordination of on-site shelter veterinary technician assistants (as needed)

* Perform additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum five (5) years’ experience as a veterinary technician in a shelter environment
Surgical experience required
Strong animal handling skills and knowledge of animal health and welfare
Exceptional attention to detail in documentation and medical record integrity
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
Proficiency with Shelterluv, Avimark, and Google Suite
Highly self-directed professional who takes initiative, anticipates needs, and operates with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
Experience in high volume spay/neuter and managing teams preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:
Standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per shift)
Performing physical examinations and safely restraining animals
Handling syringes, needles, and medical instruments
Reacting quickly to animal movement or emergencies
Lifting up to 100 pounds with assistance
Bending and squatting to leash, harness, or lift animals
Working in a loud environment due to animal noise
Exposure to cleaning chemicals and strong odors
Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively in a clinical environment
