Job Description
Denver Animal Shelter has an opening for a Veterinary Services Supervisor. This position is responsible for the supervision of technical and professional staff and volunteers in the veterinary clinic and the daily operations within the clinic. The Veterinary Services Supervisor will also manage daily workflow and operations within the clinic. This is a pivotal position for the successful operation of our veterinary services staff.
Specifically, the Veterinary Services Supervisor:
Supervises the veterinary clinic staff and volunteers, monitors daily workflow and operations to provide high-volume exceptional care, efficiency, and time management. Responds to and consults with staff on escalated, complex, or problem needs within the clinic.
Schedules the veterinary services team to ensure efficient departmental operations, including the scheduling of relief veterinarians and relief technicians. Manages time off requests and approves timecards for biweekly payroll.
Onboards new veterinary team members to ensure integrity of internal process, assess skills, and identify training needs.
Performs any of the duties of a Registered Veterinary Technician as needed to ensure efficient agency operations.
Maintains clinic functions within state Veterinary Board and local government guidelines, rules and regulations including euthanasia log maintenance, OSHA compliance, and conducts periodic safety training for clinic staff. Oversees onsite and offsite DAP vaccination clinics. Ensure rapid flow of clients through the clinic with an emphasis on the highest quality customer service possible.
Communicates regularly with various stakeholders including Shelter management, staff, and volunteers.
Provides input for onboarding, training and development of staff and volunteers, along with recommendations of volunteer needs.
Maintains data integrity for animal records and coordinates billing with Shelter Manager and Philanthropy Coordinator.
Creates, manages, communicates and coordinates with shelter sections and partner organizations the scheduling of medical care and surgeries, treatments, trap-neuter-release (TNR), and other related shelter needs to ensure least amount of animal care days for animals in the Shelter or in foster care.
Coordinates scheduling and training of visiting technical students, veterinary students, and veterinarians.
Ensures inventory, ordering and restocking of all veterinary supplies in the clinic are done accurately, promptly & with fiscal responsibility. Performs inventory of controlled substances and stays current with all DEA requirements, Colorado Pet Animal Care and Facilities Act (PACFA) requirements, AAHA requirements, and all other applicable state and local animal care and sheltering requirements.
Manages expenses as established in the Veterinary Services’ approved annual operational budget, ensures accounts are paid promptly, reviews and accurately codes accounts payable, including all invoices and credit card statements, performs other administrative tasks, as assigned.
Participates in planning and managing budget systems; prepares and presents budget recommendations to higher management; operates within budget parameters; adjusts work plans/activities because of budget changes.
Works with veterinarians and director to create and update Standard Operating Procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
Develops equipment maintenance and calibration schedules to ensure compliance and works with vendors for equipment repair and maintenance.
Coordinates with the Shelter and Field Services in the documentation and record keeping of incoming neglect or cruelty cases.
Other duties as assigned.
