Volunteer and support the local community while at Expo!
Expo for a CAWS (Community Animal Welfare Service) Day
At Animal Care Expo 2026 attendees had the opportunity to join the team at Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh for our 3rd annual Expo for a CAWS (Community Animal Welfare Service) Day on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 bringing a free wellness fair benefiting the local Pittsburgh community.
Those who volunteered assisted with wellness exams, microchipping, event communication, line management, operating tag machines and food/product distribution as well as helping in other areas on campus such as general kennel support and cat socialization. Overall 42 volunteers:
- Provided 405 vaccines to 155 pets
- Implanted 89 microchips
- Provided vouchers for free spay/neuter to 97 pets
- Distributed 4,305 pounds of dog food and 1,704 cans of cat food
- Distributed 92 leashes, 84 collars and 94 harnesses
- Distributed 216 toys and 72 food bowls
- Provided 100 KONGs/snuffle mats/enrichment items
- Distributed 120 grooming products (shampoo, nail trimmers, brushes, pet wipes)
- Gave out 96 dog hoodies/denim jackets (which were ridiculously cute)

Perk Up for Pets
Animal Care Expo 2026 also offered a feel-good morning of coffee, connection and community service.
Attendees crafted enrichment items like KONGs, handmade toys and other fun surprises to support local animal shelters Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh and Animal Friends.
